Something Old, Something New...

Nothing borrowed, nothing blue. Isn't that the old saying? No? Well, anyway I used something old and something new in this card. The old being Heartfelt Thanks which hasn't seen ink a long time! The new being the Scallop Oval Punch! The punch is available in the Occasions Mini catalog!

Bloom

I went downstairs to play today and I remembered that I didn't take a picture of last weeks scrapbook class pages, so here they are! We used Soft Summer from the Occasions Mini catalog and we also played with the Stampin' Pastels. I think these pages are perfect for some spring pictures!

Stamps: Soft Summer, Jumbo Outline Alphabet
Ink: Versamark, Versamarker, Chocolate Chip
Paper: Certainly Celery, Old Olive, Chocolate Chip, Pretty in Pink, Very Vanilla
Accessories: Stampin' Pastels, Corner Rounder, Certainly Celery 1/4" Grosgrain Ribbon, Chocolate Chip Corduroy Buttons

Sketch Heart

I participated in the sketch challenge over at SCS this week. When I saw the blocks it made me want to use DSP, so I cut a few blocks of Always DSP and adhered them to a Pumpkin Pie card. I then cut a square of Pretty in Pink cardstock and stamped my sentiment from the stamp set Always in Chocolate Chip and adhered it to my card. I then stamped the heart on Whisper White and cut it out. I adhered it to the card. It seriously took me as long to make that card to type this blog. AKA, not long at all!

Happy Day

So, I forgot to take a picture of last night's scrapbook class pages, so instead I'm showing you my niece's birthday card. I started with a piece of Whisper White cardstock and Flight of the Butterfly. I took the solid butterfly image and inked it up with Pretty in Pink. I then took the small flower stamp from the set and swirled it on the butterfly stamp. I then stamped it down on my cardstock. This is the faux shaving cream technique! I then stamped the border image over it with Jet Black StazOn. I also stamped the sentiment in Jet Black StazOn as well. I then sponged the bottom half of the cardstock with Certainly Celery ink and the top with Bashful Blue. I adhered two Bashful Blue Word Windows to the upper right corner and trimmed them down. I adhered black brads from the Vintage brads collection to the Word Windows. I took a piece of Pretty in Pink cardstock and punched one edge with the Scallop border punch and layered a strip of Certainly Celery over it. I adhered it to a Bashful Blue card and then added my butterfly image over it.

The colors of this card match the wrapping paper that I used to wrap my niece's gift. I also stamped a bunch of butterflies on the envelope, too.

Stampin' Pastels

Tonight is my monthly scrapbook class. We will be using the new stamp set, Soft Summer, from the Occasions Mini catalog and also Stampin' Pastels. So, I thought I would put together a quick tutorial for using Stampin' Pastels for the Poppin' Pastels technique. Enjoy!

I Need a Drink!

Just kidding! It's 8:00 am on a Monday morning! And I don't drink much. But I have a drink for you! This is a card I made when I should've been working out. Really, why did I think I could put my stamping studio and eliptical machine in the same room and ever work out? I'm easily distracted!

I stamped the drink from Cheers to You in Jet Black StazOn on Whisper White, colored it with Tempting Turquoise, Real Red, Old Olive and a blender pen, and punched it out with my Scallop Circle Punch. I then punched a piece of Old Olive with my Scallop Circle Punch and layered it behind my Whisper White piece. I added a little bit of glue to the drink and adhered some Dazzling Diamonds. I cut a scrap of Real Red and stamped my sentiment on it with Jet Black StazOn and adhered it to my Tempting Turquoise card. I tied a piece of Tempting Turquoise 1/4" Grosgrain Ribbon around the card and added the scallop with Stampin' Dimensionals.

If I was going to have a drink I would want it to look like that!

Faith is 5

Woo hoo! I'm catching up! I'm now on 2007 pictures! (OK, so I skipped some 2006 pictures to get here, but who's keeping track, really?). I was excited to scrapbook my neices birthday party pictures, so I skipped ahead. I used the retired Confetti Simply Scrappin' Kit to create these pages. The sketch was inspired by one of Becky Higgins' sketches from her book. Starting on the left I stamped the title with Big Deal Alphabet in Rose Red and Taken with Teal ink on Whisper White. I layered it on a piece of Summer Sun. I then stamped the "5" from Short Order Numbers on Whisper White cardstock with Summer Sun ink and punched it out with my 1" Circle Punch. I layered it on a 1 1/4" Taken with Teal Circle, then a 1 3/8" Rose Red Circle, then on the Old Olive die cut, and then adhered it to the piece of Summer Sun cardstock. The next strip is a piece of DSP from the SSK and the photos were layered on Taken with Teal Photo Mats. On the next strip I layered the picture on a piece of Whisper White cardstock. I also adhered the die cut tag to a piece of Whisper White cardstock and trimmed around it because I didn't want it to be sticky. I then threaded through some Whisper White 1/4" Grosgrain Ribbon through it and tied it around my strip. On the 3rd strip of DSP I layered the pictures on Whisper White cardstock. And before adhering it to the page I tied a piece of Old Olive Polytwill Ribbon around it. I then stamped the date in Old Olive on Summer Sun and punched it out with the Word Window punch and layered it on a Large Oval punched from Rose Red. The last strip of DSP has two pictures on it that were layered on Old Olive cardstock. Lastly I cut down some of the sticky strips to 10" and adhered them page. I then punched out a piece of Whisper White with my Scallop Circle Punch and added another of the adhesive die cuts to it and added it to my page. I love how quickly pages go together when using the Simply Scrappin' Kits!

Monochromatic Wishes

The clean and simple challenge at SCS this week was to create a monochromatic card. I decided to stick with a Basic Black and Basic Gray card. I need a card for an upcoming wedding and the color is black, so I that was my inspiration. I started with a Basic Gray card and adhered some Charbon DSP to the bottom of the card. I then stamped the heart from Always in Jet Black StazOn on Very Vanilla and cut it out. I tied a piece of Basic Black ribbon around the card to hide the seam from the DSP and adhered my heart over it with Stampin' Dimensionals. I then stamped my sentiment in Jet Black StazOn. And there you have it! Clean and simple and monochromatic!

Rock Star

Apparently the reorganization of the studio worked. I scrapbooked! I scrapbooked pictures of when the hubby and I saw Eddie K. from the band Live perform an acoustic set. It was the prize of a contest I won on the local radio station. I started with a sheet of 12 x 12 Close to Cocoa cardstock. I sponged the edges with Close to Cocoa ink and Stampin' Sponges. I then cut a sheet of Chocolate Chip cardstock down to the width of my large picture. I sponged the edges with Chocolate Chip ink. I adhered the large picture. I then cut down two photo mats from Very Vanilla and sponged the edges with Close to Cocoa. I added the smaller picture to the photo mat and adhered it to the Chocolate Chip cardstock. I then added the layer under the larger picture, but didn't adhere the picture all the way down. I slid part of the photo mat under the Chocolate Chip cardstock before adhering it. I then adhered the piece of Chocolate Chip cardstock to my Close to Cocoa piece. I stamped the work rock in Chocolate Chip with Big Deal Alphabet. I then took a star from a pack of On Board Chipboard and sponged it with Versamark. I then dabbed Close to Cocoa Stampin' Pastels on it. I then sponged the edges of the star with Chocolate Chip ink. I also adhered the star to a piece of Old Olive cardstock and cut a border around the star. I adhered the star to my page. I then stamped the word star with Rough Edges Alphabet in Chocolate Chip. I cut a small rectangle of Old Olive cardstock and journaled on it using my Basic Brown Journaler. I adhered it to my page. Lastly I punched some Small Stars from Old Olive and Close to Cocoa and adhered them randomly on the page.

Creative Block

When creative block strikes, rearrange your craft room! That's what I did this weekend. I sat down to scrapbook a few times and I just wasn't feeling it. I wasn't in love with the page I did complete and I just couldn't bring myself to glue anything to the paper. So instead I set to work on rearranging the room and cleaning out some clutter. I noticed that my cardstock was starting to bow the shelf it was on and my ink pads were cramped and I often lost my paper trimmer under other stuff because it was on my primary working table.

Now I realize that I haven't shown you my stamping space since July 2007 and it had changed quite a bit since then. I did post some pictures of how my space looked in April 2008 on SCS.

I started by disassembling my Antonius cart that holds my stamps and cardstock scraps. I wanted to move it to the corner and I can't move it with the drawers in it. That's also where my computer printer sits. And there's my sewing machine.....which used to be upstairs, but is now going to live in the basement, too.

And here you can see I moved the white cubes and shelves from the side wall to the back wall. The tables are pretty much where they were before, the Antonius cart is in the corner and the printer is back on top. I had to leave the rails where they were since they're screwed into the wall. And they were sort of the problem any way since they did leave much room on the top of the white unit, which is where my ink pads were.

And here is the finished product! It's so clean! I turned one of my tables and put it up against the wall, leaving enough space to be able to pull the drawers of the cart out. That's where my paper tirmmer, Stampin' Scrub, Post-It Notes, and markers will sit. I put the other table perpendicular to the first and that will be my primary working table. Ignore the stacks of mini catalogs on the table. They're waiting for me to put labels on them. I put my cardstock on the top of the white unit, so I don't have to worry about how heavy it is on the lower shelf. I also stacked my ink pads on the top shelf (since I have yet to actually buy an ink caddy). On the lower shelf I put my 12 x 12 cardstock and DSP which was usually in the plastic caddy that is up against the wall. Now it's within easy reach. I put the trash can off the side of the working table (even though it's not pretty) because I could easily slide trash off the table into the can.

I have yet to stamp with the arrangement, so I hope it works. Otherwise I'll be rearranging again!

The Boys

So I tried something new with this scrapbook page. I painted a chipboard tag with some acrylic paint and let it dry. I also used paint for the title, which was stamped with Contempo Alphabet. I then used a sponge brush to paint the edge of the tag. I also tried some sewing on my page. I am in the process of consolidating my two craft rooms, so I brought my sewing machine down and gave it a go. I adhered the two pieces of retired DSP to the page, then stitched around them in contrasting thread. I layered three of my pictures on Mellow Moss and added them to my page. The fourth picture was layered on Brilliant Blue and I stamped the subtitle with Simple Serif Mini Alphabet in Chocolate Chip. After my chipboard was dry I threaded some hemp twine through it and tied it in a knot. I then attached the chipboard to my page. There's not much stamping on this page, but I liked the way it turned out.

Eastern Blooms Decor Elements

One of the items I brought to Tuesday's Quarter Auction was a Glass Hurricane adorned with the large flower from Eastern Blooms Decor Elements. I made a video of the assembly of this item for your viewing pleasure. Check it out below!

Bunny Beans

This is such a quick and cute project. I made these little treat bags to give to my guests at the quarter auction tonight. I stamped the bunny image (from a retired stamp set) in Jet Black StazOn on Whisper White. I punched the bunnies out with the small tag punch and colored them in with Gable Green, Pale Plum, Barely Banana, and Cameo Coral markers. I then layered either a Gable Green or Pale Plum tags. I punched a hole in each with my Stamp-a-ma-jig. I then filled the Cello Bags with jelly beans, twisted and tied them with retired stretch silver cord and tied the tags to them. This is just one quick and easy way you can use Stampin's Up! Cello Bags

Not feeling so hot!

I had every intention of stamping on this dreary, wet day, however I do not feel good. I haven't been able to get off the couch and I'm still in my pajamas (at 3 in the afternoon). I need to rest up so that I'm ready for tomorrow's quarter auction. If you are interested in attending the quarter auction I have a few more seats open, but I don't know for how much longer, so let me know ASAP if you want to go. Click on my calendar to the right for more info.

Since I don't have any projects to share at the moment I'd like to share with you what a wonderful company Stampin' Up! is. Earlier this year Australia was ravaged by wild fires. After learning the news of the devastation Stampin' Up! sprung into action. Demonstrators in Australia and New Zealand have been working hard to promote the purchase of a select group of stamps that would benefit the Australian Red Cross. The tally is in and Stampin' Up! has given $77,889.63 AUD to the Australian Red Cross! The hard work of the Australian and New Zealand demonstrators has paid off to help with relief efforts. I hope they feel proud.

Get Connected Promo

Here is a link to the Get Connected Promo that is going on this month. Click on the image to the right for details! I've also put the link in my sidebar.

Scallop Congrats!

This is another one of the cards we made at my card class last night. This card uses the stamp set Say it with Scallops which is this year's Ronald McDonald House stamp set. This means that every time this stamp set is purchased SU! donates $2 of the proceeds to Ronald McDonald House Charities.

We started with a Real Red card base. We then punched out 3 squares with the 1 3/8" Square punch from Tempting Turquoise. We then stamped our sentiment on Whisper White with Tempting Turquoise ink and punched it out with the Scallop Square punch. We adhered all of the squares to our card. Lastly we tied a piece of Whisper White 1/4" Grosgrain ribbon around the edge of the card. It's so simple! And I just love this color combo!
